Media Workers || The Kardashians

Hello Netizens,
Before getting into the topic, I would like to show the two slides we had to create for one of the lectures I had in Media Appreciation class.

You can read more about the topic in my blogpost here.

Okay, now lets get to this blogpost's topic, which is "Media workers roles". To define the roles of a media worker, we need to understand what a media worker is, which is a little difficult to do. The term 'Media worker' is extremely broad and it covers individuals that work on television, movies, live performances, social media and print. This field is also ever growing, and it is expected to rise 5% over the course of 10 years in the USA.

Due to that Media Workers can be anyone, the skills required to become one can vary depending on the field. Nevertheless, there are traits that are required for a media worker to embody. These traits are:
  • Excellent in the language they are communication with.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Punctual.
  • Can work efficiently without supervision.
  • Up to date with popular trends.
  • In touch with current social issues.
  • Acquires analytical and creative abilities.
  • Captivates their audience using their type of media.
The job a media worker does varies from a field to another. For instance, a media worker in the print industry could write an article, research and article or even be the editor of an article. Same with films, music and book industry.

Celebrities are often seen as Media Workers most likely because they involve themselves in multiple fields. for example: they can star in a movie, write a book or sell a product. We tend to accuse them of trying different things just for the money, but I would like to argue that it is not the case. A celebrity cannot do the same thing forever and if they do, their audience will get bored of them.

A great example of a successful Media Worker would be the Kardashians, and the master mind behind all the success, Kris Jenner. Kris succeeded at creating a brand out of her family members and always being in the spotlight. Every Karadashian is now with their own personal brand and business, expanding the field they are active on rather than sticking to reality TV.

They started building their brand through creating a USP (Unique Selling Proposition), associating themselves with famous people and slowly becoming famous themselves. After Kim got all the attention she needed, her social media accounts started to also gain more attention. Kim chose to defined her self as a trend setter through social media and that is why many begun following her style in fashion and makeup.

Kim Kardashian understood how important being connected with her fans is, so she engaged with them online as much as she could. To her fans, it showed that she cared about them and was willing to communicate with them. The next step after gaining popularity online, Kim turned to traditional Media. She also gave an opportunity for the rest of her family members to elevate into the statue of celebrity, simply by being related to her.

The Kardashians now are known for making bold and risky decisions, and it attracts people. When Caitlin was featured on the cover of Vogue, everyone was talking about her transgendering. Everyone did, including people who cared and who didn't care about them. She was the hot topic for weeks.

Many hate the Kardashians, some love to hate them and others love them. Whatever your personal opinion on them is, I don't think we can ignore their success or brush it off as luck. It took Kim Kardashian years to reach to her current net worth of $175 million.
